ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create financial statements in financial statement preparation software (CaseWare) for current clients
- Set up CaseWare files and financials for new clients
- Convert/import data into CaseWare
- Create, update, and maintain templates
- Provide professional accounting and auditing services to clients
- Work with accountants at all levels of the organization from intern through president/directors
- Provide firm-wide guidance and support in financial statement preparation
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES BEYOND THE BASICS
In the future, develop niche markets for Elko & Associates Ltd, including:
- Provide training services to other CPA firms on CaseWare, templates, procedures, etc. This would involve presentation development and travel.
- Develop industry-specific templates in CaseWare.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
- Degree required – CPA preferable
- Strong accounting background
- Obtain exposure on the types of financial statement engagements offered by the firm
- Automated accounting systems experience needed
- Superior knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (particularly MS Word and Excel) and file structure
- Understand Excel formulas and functions; write basic logic statements (e.g., IF…THEN, TRUE, FALSE, etc.)
- Ability and enthusiasm to learn new software programs quickly
- Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Ability to evaluate issues, research potential solutions, and problem solve
- Excellent communication skills – writing and presenting information to groups
- CaseWare and GoFileRoom software – will train
Manager (Audit or Tax) - Individuals at this level are normally CPAs and have had a minimum of three years’ experience as a senior (in-charge) accountant (or equivalent experience as deemed appropriate by the owner) and have exhibited technical proficiency and the ability to supervise complete engagements. Managers are expected to:
- Plan, supervise, and complete routine engagements
- Supervise both staff accountants and seniors, provide feedback to them, and evaluate their progress
- Become experts in their assigned areas
- Develop new client contacts and relationships beneficial to the firm
- Assist in firm administrative functions as assigned by the owners
- Recognize opportunities to provide additional services to existing clients.
Supervisor (Elko Management Advisory Services) - Organizations need to create and implement internal controls that safeguard business assets and processes, including those that protect data and information technology (IT) systems. Elko's Management Advisory Services (MAS) practice addresses these controls and security issues. MAS focuses on reviewing operational, financial, and technology processes to provide management with an independent assessment of business risk, internal control, and overall effectiveness of the process.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise, direct, and monitor client services teams on multiple engagements; plan, execute, direct, and complete internal audits, business process control reviews, and other service offerings in a wide variety of industries; and manage to budget.
- Review operational, financial, and technology processes to provide management with an individual assessment of business risk, internal control, and the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the process as well as the risks associated with internal controls.
- Work closely with clients and staff to develop client and project risk assessments, implement opportunities, and recommendations regarding business and IT process optimization, profit improvement, internal control, and compliance.
- Work with audit and assurance teams and the client to plan engagement strategy, define objectives, and address technology-related controls risks.
- Supervise internal auditing outsourcing and co-sourcing engagements for clients.
- Maintain active communication with clients to manage expectations, ensure satisfaction, make sure deadlines are met, and lead change efforts effectively.
- Maintain client relations and cross-sell services.
- Recruit and work to retain other associates.
- Coach associates in developing and achieving goals and objectives for performance and professional development.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting and a CPA. MBA is a plus.
• Five to seven years of progressive audit experience in public accounting or equivalent, delivering and managing audit services with experience in a medium- to large-sized public accounting firm.
• Governance, Risk & Compliance, Operational Improvement, and Assurance Services experience strongly preferred.
• Experience performing financial, operational, and system audits as well as business process control reviews.
• Security experience or training and Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 experience a plus.
• Computer expertise including knowledge of various accounting software packages, audit-preparation software, and an understanding of the impact of technology.
• Exceptional client service and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain outstanding client relationships.
• Ability to supervise multiple engagements and competing priorities in a rapidly growing, results-based team environment.
• Strong leadership, business development, recruiting, training, coaching, and mentoring skills, coupled with excellent written, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
IT System Administrator / Windows Engineer - Reporting to the IT Manager, the successful candidate will help support both Elko’s internal systems and the Firm’s external clients. The position offers extensive opportunity for growth.
In this position the candidate will be responsible for the following functions:
- Provide hands-on support for all Elko’s desktop systems and applications.
- Install software application upgrades.
- Set-up new workstations, laptops and printers.
- Troubleshoot and repair software and hardware problems.
- Install and upgrade windows servers.
- Participate in the development, testing and implementation of new systems and procedures.
- Citrix presentation server farm maintenance and implementation.
- Maintain backup system for external clients including backup and restoring of files.
- Windows 2000/2003 system administration.
- Implement and maintain anti-virus and anti-spyware systems.
- Phone support and remote support for external clients.
- Maintain managed services systems.
- Design and maintain SharePoint sites.
- Exchange 2003/2007 administration and support.
- Install and maintain Microsoft small business server.
- Interact with customers in a both a support and sales role.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Successful candidate will be an experienced professional with a college degree (or related coursework) with basic business and administration skills. In addition, experience working in an IT support organization is an advantage but not a necessity:

Senior Accountant (Audit or Tax) - Individuals at this level have had a minimum of two years’ experience as a staff accountant and normally have passed the CPA exam. Seniors are expected to:
- Know and understand the reasons behind the firm’s policies and procedures
- Possess technical knowledge sufficient to supervise staff accountants
- Begin acquiring the skills necessary to develop quality client relationships and loyalty
If assigned primarily to financial statement engagements:
- Begin to develop a command of GAAP, OCBOA, unique or specialized accounting principles, and financial statement presentations
- Obtain a thorough understanding of generally accepted auditing standards and common audit procedures and techniques
- Assume responsibility for efficiently supervising both audit and no audit engagements.
If assigned primarily to tax engagements:
- Begin developing a command of pertinent IRC sections and regulations
- Become proficient at tax research, including a knowledge of the reference sources available to the firm
- Assume responsibility for the supervision of tax return preparation engagements
Staff Accountant (Audit or Tax) - Individuals at this level normally have a college degree with a major in accounting or other related business field and have from zero to three years’ experience. Staff accountants are expected to:
- Become familiar with the firm’s policies and procedures
- Understand the rules, regulations, and code of conduct of the AICPA
- Progress professionally by working toward passing the CPA exam as soon as possible
If assigned primarily to financial statement engagements:
- Become familiar with pronouncements of the FASB, AICPA, and when assigned to governmental engagements, the GAO and GASB
- Become proficient at preparing financial statements
- Obtain exposure on the types of financial statement engagements offered by the firm.
- Assume responsibility for unaudited financial statement engagements or segments of audits under the supervision of more experienced staff.
If assigned primarily to tax engagements:
- Become familiar with pertinent IRC sections and regulations
- Obtain a working knowledge of research techniques and the various research sources in the firm library
- Become proficient in the preparation of corporate, individual, partnership, fiduciary, and other tax returns prepared by the firm
- Assume responsibility for the completion of tax returns under the supervision of more experienced staff
Financial Planning Associate - Requirements for the position include:
- CFP or individual willing to obtain CFP designation
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
- strong quantitative and analytical abilities
- high level of interpersonal and communications (written and verbal) skills
- organizational, computer and spreadsheet skills
- securities license (series 66) or ability to obtain within first year
- financial services, accounting or tax experience preferred
- willingness to build knowledge base in financial service industry through formal coursework and self-study
Financial Services team member will assist in or be responsible for various phases of the financial planning process that may include:
- attending client meetings and gathering data
- data input and analysis
- developing asset allocation models based on risk profile of clients
- preparation of financial plans (including tax, retirement and estate planning, insurance and investment portfolio review and analysis, education funding, net worth statements, etc.)
- presenting and implementing recommended strategies
- maintaining client relationships
In addition, the successful candidate will assist in building the Financial Services practice area through participation in the Firm's marketing initiatives which may include public speaking, writing articles and membership in various community and business organizations. Assistance may also be required in handling various administrative and regulatory tasks associated with the Financial Services practice.
The Financial Planning Associate will also assist in the preparation of individual income tax returns for the Firm's financial planning and tax clients.
IT Auditor - This individual will: lead all aspects of the IT audit functions for financial audits; develop the methodology of the audit process; work with the audit staff to educate them on the technology risks within an organization; and work with IT Consulting and Business Consulting divisions to assist with technology projects of system design and implantation.
The successful candidate will major duties will include the following. Other duties may be assigned as necessary to fulfill optimum efficiency of this position:
- Performs audits of application, database code and output as needed.
- Performs audit procedures, including identifying and defining issues, developing criteria, reviewing and analyzing evidence, and documenting client processes and procedures.
- Identifies, develops, and documents audit issues and recommendations using independent judgment concerning areas being reviewed.
- Communicates or assists in communicating the results of audit and consulting projects via written reports and oral presentations to management and the audit committee.
- Develops and maintains productive client and staff relationships through individual contacts and group meetings.
- Pursues professional development opportunities, including external and internal training and professional association memberships, and shares information gained with co-workers.
- Provides or assists in providing training, coaching, and guidance to internal audit staff in conducting audits and other audit-related issues.
- Plans and executes audits of client/server technology platforms and evaluates IT internal controls and works collaboratively with management to identify actions needed.
- Conducts data extraction, analysis, and security reviews utilizing software tools.
- Acts as liaison with IT business partners to ensure full understanding of data flow, data integrity, and system security.
- Assesses information technology control elements to mitigate IT risks regarding the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of business information.
- Performs related work as assigned by audit management.
- Conducts audits at company-owned retail stores and other facilities, which may involve some travel.
- Adheres to all organizational and professional ethical standards.

- Ability to travel to client locations.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two years of full-time experience conducting information technology audits, quality assurance testing, or similar work.
- A graduate degree and/or certification (CISA or similar) is preferred.
- Experience in accounting system software and in conducting audits.
- Experience with network structures.
- Exposure to system security packages.
- High level of proficiency in information systems development methodologies and technology control concepts.
