Coming from a Big 4 and large corporate environment, many ideas were quashed because they would save "only a few thousand dollars." At Elko, I deal directly with the business owners, who worked tirelessly to build the business. To them, every penny is sacred. I have committed to listening to the wants and needs of those people, to minimize their tax liability in every situation.

Tax planning and compliance for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and other "for-profit" entities, transaction planning, due diligence, and interaction and negotiations with the IRS with regard to audits and other issues.

Gerry joined the Elko team in 1997, first as consultant, and moving into full-time employment as a manager in the tax department in 2005. Prior to that time, he spent 11 years with Touche Ross in Philadelphia (now Deloitte), rising to the senior manager level, and 6 years as the tax director at QVC.
Over the years at Elko, he has developed technical niche areas dealing with partnership, S corporations, and mergers and acquisitions, and is generally the "go to person" for most areas of taxation of "for-profit" entities. He has been the instructor for numerous in-house CPE sessions, and was a frequent speaker on individual and business taxation, business succession planning, state taxation, and numerous other tax concepts. He also has significant dealings with personnel issues, recruiting and generally supporting administration of the tax department at Elko.
Some of his more notable accomplishments at Elko include:
- Structuring a reorganization to allow an entity to cut its Pennsylvania Franchise tax bill by more than $500,000
- Reorganizing and merging a corporation and a partnership to allow the owners to use millions of dollars of suspended carry forward losses
- Advising on a proposed reorganization, that if it had happened as structured by a third party, would have resulted in tens of thousands of dollars of current tax, without a corresponding distribution of cash; and
- Negotiating and settling an IRS penalty of more than $4 million, for less than 40 percent of that amount.
Gerry and his wife Suzann currently live in Lafayette Hill. He has two children and two grandsons, all of whom [unfortunately] reside in Atlanta, Georgia. When not at work, he enjoys most spectator sports, playing golf, and following drag racing.
