John joined Elko & Associates Ltd in 1993, and has built a reputation for excellence in his 27 years of experience in the industry. He plays an integral role in the management of the firm as a Shareholder and Practice Area Leader of the Nonprofit industry group.
John's accounting career began with Deloitte & Touche, LLP in 1981, where his hard work and dedication brought him from staff accountant to senior manager in the audit department. As senior manager his responsibilities included managing the audit department staff, and he was responsible for all aspects of audit engagements, including client relationships. After 11 years with Deloitte & Touche LLP, John chose to join Elko because of their entrepreneurial, hands-on approach to serving clients, as well as their commitment to certain niche industries, including nonprofit and privately held businesses.
John's initial interest in accounting stemmed from his understanding that it is the root of all business. He also appreciates that his career allows him the unique opportunity to work in a diverse range of business applications.
John's commitment to ongoing education and professional development has made him an expert in his field. His areas of specialty include nonprofit, retail and distribution, and real estate. His knowledge of the audit and attest functions contributes to his leadership role in the accounting and auditing department's use of technology, evidenced by its "paperless audit" approach and use of data-extractions tools.
As a result of John's personal commitment to helping others, he engages in educational activities, including speaking engagements geared towards clients, as well as coworkers and others in the industry. Internally, he conducts continuing professional education (CPE) seminars on a regular basis for his colleagues. As a frequent speaker, he has given presentations to prospective clients on topics such as, "Accounting Updates for Not-For-Profit Organizations."
John was born and raised in Yeadon, PA. He and his wife, Amy, reside in Marlton, New Jersey with their four children. His children's activities and his involvement with his church and local community keep him busy in his spare time. Golf, tennis, and music are also among John's interests when he is away from the office.
